Kudun and Partners celebrated Pride Month to express our recognition of the impact that the LGBTQ+ community have had on society, nationally and globally. Our colleagues participated in the Pride costume contest and engaged in an insightful discussion about history and challenges facing the LGBTQ+ community.

Pride month is about acceptance, equality, celebrating the work of LGBTQ+ people, education in LGBTQ+ history and raising awareness of issues affecting the LGBTQ+ community.

During the month of June each year, the LGBT community celebrates in a variety of ways. Throughout the world, a variety of events are held during this unique month to recognize the impact LGBT individuals have made on society.

Background

On June 28 in the year of 1969, a key turning point in the struggle for civil rights of LGBTQ+ has taken place in New York City after enduring a prolong pattern of harassment and discrimination against their gender identity.

On this particular day, the New York City police arrived at the Stonewall Inn, one of the most popular gay bars of the city, with a search warrant to investigate the illegal sale of alcohol. Many individuals were arrested for ‘cross-dressing’ during the raid, however, the response from the community was not similar to what the police had experienced. Although this was not the first time LGBT people stood up for themselves, the event triggered series of protests that lasted over six days and created impacts towards an expansion of LGBTQ+ civil rights movement.

Since today marks its 53^rd anniversary, we would like to establish our stance that we are a supportive legal community that embraces diversity, inclusivity, equity and belonging. It is also important to take this opportunity to celebrate the world’s progress in improving the rights of the LGBTQ+ community.
