SVC2UK – Why do we get involved?
SVC2UK, or Silicon Valley Comes to the UK, is in its 17th year and brings together leading minds this year from Silicon Valley and the UK to discuss international scaling, collaboration and the game-changing ideas of the future. This year the Summit was back to its best; it being the first time in several years that leading figures from the US were able to actually attend in person.
James, also the Head of our Technology Sector, said: “The UK scale up companies that form part of the 2022 SVC2UK Scale Up Club are genuine scale ups (growth of 20% or more year on year for two years and a minimum employee count of 10) and are some of the most disruptive growing businesses from all across all the UK. With over 880 companies in the community, SVC2UK's Scale Up Club features high-growth UK companies that are changing the world from a variety of sectors - from fintech and health tech to artificial intelligence and smart mobility- these companies are developing cutting edge technologies that are positively changing the world. It’s incredibly important for the firm to be involved in these discussions - assisting scaling companies is what we do so well.
“For example, London and the Bay Area are home to more climate tech companies than from all other innovation hubs globally - there is a big opportunity for the two hubs to collaborate and learn from each other on the development of solutions that can help to tackle the negative impact of climate change.
“We have also supported SVC2UK for over three years now, assisting various UK companies we have met with their UK and scale up activities including helping them launch or expand in the US. Earlier this year, as part of our partnership, we also supported the Beyond HERizons female founders trade mission with the Mayor of London.
“We continue to look to invite people across our divisions and locations to get involved – this year partners Hamish Corner and Grant Edwards attended the flagship CEO Summit at Mansion House in London and Helen Burnell, Jordan Hollingsworth and Jen Paton attended the Good Growth Summit, exploring the role technology and entrepreneurs play in building a better future, featuring founders, businesses and investors that balance purpose with profit.”
London and Silicon Valley have two of the world's most vibrant and exciting start-up ecosystems - according to the latest Global Startup Ecosystem report from Startup Genome, London (#2) and Silicon Valley (#1) featured as the top two start-up hubs in the world - the two hubs are home to over 600 unicorn companies between them
This year's summit included headline speakers and thought leaders from across the UK and US, including Michael Acton Smith OBE, Co-Founder of Calm, Mind Candy and creator of Moshi Monsters ; serial US entrepreneur turned investor Angel Gambino from AWS Startups whom Helen interviewed on stage at the Female Founder breakfast event, Rishi Khosla OBE, CEO of Oak North; Anne Boden MBE, CEO of Starling Bank; Pete Flint OBE, General Partner at NFX; Sherry Coutu CBE, Serial Entrepreneur and Angel investor, and Jeff Kolovson, Co-founder and COO of Faire.
