Carey Olsen promotes six lawyers to the partnership across Bermuda, Cayman Islands, Guernsey and Jersey offices

The six promotions bring the total number of partners across the Carey Olsen group to 84.

Carey Olsen group managing partner Alex Ohlsson said: "Congratulations to Michelle, Richard, Tim, Rachel, Andrew and Nienke on their thoroughly deserved promotions. Each of these individuals are a true asset to the firm – dedicated, hard-working and committed to consistently providing their clients with the highest level of service. Michelle joined Carey Olsen in 2019 from the London office of an international law firm. Michelle advises on all aspects of Bermuda corporate and commercial law, with a particular focus on insurance regulatory and transactional matters. She also has considerable experience in mergers and acquisitions, debt and equity financing, and alternative risk financing transactions involving insurers and insurance groups.

Richard joined the firm in 2021, having previously led the real estate and development in-house legal team of the largest real estate and hotel developer in the Cayman Islands. He advises on Cayman real estate, development and all aspects of local leasing and licensing, with a focus on complex real estate transactions and structuring. Richard has significant experience in public sector projects and is the lead legal adviser in Cayman's first Public Private Partnership established to modernise the Island's solid waste infrastructure.

Tim has been with Carey Olsen since 2002 and qualified as a Guernsey Advocate in 2017. Tim appears regularly in the Guernsey Courts at all levels and has extensive experience advising on all aspects of corporate and commercial litigation with a particular focus on complex international commercial disputes, banking and finance disputes, corporate restructuring and insolvency, regulatory actions and intellectual property matters. On the non-contentious side, Tim is registered with the Guernsey Intellectual Property Office as a Trade Mark, Design Rights and Patents Intellectual Property agent, and frequently undertakes IP registration work for local and overseas clients.         

Rachel joined the firm full-time in 2013 and was admitted as an Advocate of the Royal Court in 2019. She has advised on a wide range of corporate matters during her time at Carey Olsen, with a primary emphasis on investment funds. Rachel has a keen interest in the establishment, regulation and operation of investment funds as well as on general corporate and regulatory issues and banking and financing transactions. Rachel also advises on capital markets, particularly in respect of LSE, NASDAQ and NYSE listed clients.

Andrew joined Carey Olsen in 2007 and has significant experience in the structuring, formation and regulation of Guernsey open and closed-ended collective investment schemes investing in private equity, venture capital, real estate, infrastructure and hedge funds. He also advises upon significant and high value corporate and M&A transactions, including court-sanctioned schemes of arrangement, group restructures and migrations. He was called to the Guernsey Bar in 2023.

Nienke joined Carey Olsen in 2016 and has a cradle to grave Jersey investment funds practice, supporting experienced and emerging fund managers to achieve their goals. She is a Jersey qualified advocate, and her practice includes advising on the establishment, structuring, regulation and launch of investment funds, negotiating and drafting a broad range of commercial agreements and advising on the sale and financing of structures holding international real estate. She advises on the full spectrum of generalist funds and sector funds and has worked with significant local and international fund managers, real estate investors and financial institutions in South Africa, New York and Jersey.
