DORDA strengthens its legal practices in the areas of corporate M&A, banking and capital markets, dispute resolution and insurance litigation by promoting three new senior associates. Clemens Burian (corporate law, capital markets law, takeover law) and Alexander Karl (commercial & insurance litigation, arbitration) were recently admitted to the bar. Oliver Thurin (Corporate/M&A, Corporate Law, Capital Markets) just joined DORDA at the beginning of August.

Clemens Burian (32) has been with DORDA for five years and was admitted to the bar in July 2019. An expert in corporate and capital markets law, Clemens Burian specialises in stock-listed companies. He was part of the DORDA team advising BAWAG Group on the largest IPO to date on the Vienna Stock Exchange. His main practice areas include stock exchange law (market abuse law, prospectus law) and takeover law. He advises clients on transactions on the capital market (initial public offerings, capital increases, takeover procedures and delistings) and off the capital market (reorganisations). In addition, he advises clients in general corporate law matters, such as the foundation of companies and the preparation of general meetings. The experienced and tech-savvy business lawyer completed his legal education at the Vienna University of Economics and Business and has a school degree in electrical engineering and information technology.

Alexander Karl (31) has been a member of the dispute resolution team at DORDA since the beginning of his legal career. For years, DORDA's dispute resolution practice has been ranked as leading in Austria by independent international law firm networks. Alexander Karl was admitted to the bar in July 2019 after completing a postgraduate programme in Comparative and International Dispute Resolution at Queen Mary University of London (UK). He is a specialist in commercial & insurance litigation as well as arbitration and regularly assists clients in complex, mostly cross-border proceedings in these areas. Most recently, he successfully represented international clients in the real estate sector in mass investor disputes against alleged claims of several thousand parties. He is also the author of numerous publications in the area of European civil procedure law and arbitration.

Oliver Thurin (40) is an expert in corporate M&A, restructuring, banking and capital markets law and has joined DORDA's corporate M&A team at the beginning of August 2019. Prior to his new engagement, he worked for international law firms, where he advised on major real estate and banking transactions. Another focus of his work is the financing and implementation of M&A transactions and projects, in particular in the areas of real estate, banks, infrastructure and energy. After studying law, he completed an LL.M. at the London School of Economics and Political Science and began his legal career at the Administrative Court. After 4 years in the Federal Service, he moved to a leading commercial law firm to specialize in corporate law and public commercial law. He complemented his business education with a Management Acceleration Program at INSEAD Business School and a Real Estate Asset and Transaction Management Program at the University of Regensburg (IREBS).
