Dykema, a leading national law firm, is extremely proud to announce that Jeff Huron, Office Managing Member of Dykema’s Los Angeles office, and Jimmy Azadian, Member in the firm’s Litigation Department and Appellate Practice Group, were each selected as nominees for the Los Angeles Business Journal’s annual “Leaders in the Law” awards. Both Huron and Azadian were featured among other nominees in a special section of the October 14, 2019, issue of the Los Angeles Daily Business Journal. In addition, both were invited to attend the publication’s awards dinner on Tuesday, October 22, at the LA Grand Hotel in downtown Los Angeles, where finalists will be announced.

Each year, the Los Angeles Business Journal recognizes both firm attorneys and general counsel. According to the publication, candidates in each category are recognized for exceptional legal skill and achievement across the full spectrum of responsibility, exemplary leadership as evidenced by the highest professional and ethical standards, and for contributions to the Los Angeles community at large.

Huron’s practice focuses on business litigation. With 30 years of experience litigating and arbitrating business, real estate and entertainment disputes, he has tried and won multi-million dollar high-stakes cases for a wide range of clients, including businesses, partnerships, financial institutions, lenders, real estate investors and developers, receivers, and business owners and shareholders. Huron also has substantial experience in appellate matters, having handled more than 50 appeals and writs.

Huron has had several recent successes in the courtroom over the past few months, including obtaining summary judgment for a client in a putative class action pending in the Los Angeles Superior Court. He also recently led a team that successfully resolved a longstanding dispute for a large energy company with assets in petroleum refining and logistics.

Outside of his practice, Huron serves as Chair of the California State Bar’s Financial Institutions Committee, as well as a Member of the California Mortgage Bankers Association’s Legislative Committee. He earned a J.D. from the University of Pacific, McGeorge School of Law and a B.A. from Marquette University

Azadian’s practice focuses on complex federal and state court litigation raising cutting-edge and core business and constitutional issues. He has served as counsel in more than 200 appeals and writ proceedings covering a wide variety of industries and subjects. Throughout his career, Azadian’s been responsible for arguing cases that have had an immense impact on the law, including securing a favorable Ninth Circuit en banc decision this year for a client that clarifies the standards for nationwide class actions and the requirements imposed on a trial court when accepting a nationwide class action settlement.

Outside of his practice, Azadian is extremely active with the United States Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit; he serves as Chair of the Appellate Lawyer Representatives, is a court-appointed mentor to civil practitioners through the Court’s Mentorship Program, has served two terms as a court-appointed member of its Advisory Committee on Rules of Practice and Internal Operating Procedures, and was appointed to serve on the Law Clerk Resource Group.

Azadian earned a J.D. from the Pepperdine University School of Law and a B.A. from the University of California, Los Angeles. In line with his feelings that it is imperative to aid the next generation of advocates, Azadian has also served as an adjunct professor teaching courses in Appellate Advocacy at Pepperdine University School of Law, Law and Economics at UCLA, the Supreme Court Practicum at Northwestern University School of Law, and Legal Ethics at USC.
