Dinsmore Flexes Power of its Women’s Initiative with Hire of Sally Geraghty

Dinsmore & Shohl LLP has welcomed Of Counsel Sally Geraghty to its Columbus, Ohio office. Geraghty will practice with the firm’s Corporate & Transactional group.

She focuses her work on business, acquisitions and securities for companies of all sizes. She has experience drafting, negotiating and revising contracts, including purchase and sale agreements, settlement agreements, confidentiality agreements, supply contracts and advertising agreements. She also counsels clients to ensure compliance with OSHA, EPA and local governments.

Geraghty comes to Dinsmore after two years of part-time work as general counsel for Ohio Mulch Supply, Inc. After earning her J.D. from The Ohio State University College of Law in 1995, she practiced in both Illinois and Ohio for eight years before taking 14 years off to raise a family – a gap she feared would hinder her foray back into full-time legal work.

“I met with Dinsmore partners who assured me Dinsmore values what its attorneys have done, not what they haven’t done,” Geraghty said. “And the truth is: I’ve worked hard and done a lot, and I’m thrilled to find a firm like Dinsmore that values that and is a great part of the city of Columbus.”

Geraghty’s hire is emblematic of Dinsmore’s commitment to work-life balance and equal opportunity in the workplace. In 2018, the firm extended its paid parental leave to 18 weeks, a full four weeks longer than the national average for large firms. And earlier this year, Women Inc. magazine named Dinsmore to its Top 100 Law Firms for Women list.

“We value excellence and diversity, and that means considering nontraditional candidates, including women who have taken years out of their profession to raise their families,” said Dinsmore Women’s Initiative Committee Chair Stacey Borowicz.

In addition to raising her four children, Geraghty fills her time outside the office caring for her half-dozen pets, including a rotation of foster dogs-in-training through 4 Paws for Ability, a non-profit that trains service dogs and places them with children and veterans living with autism, diabetes, hearing impairments, seizure disorders and more.

Geraghty’s arrival to Dinsmore in Columbus ends a year of tremendous growth in the city for the firm. In recent months, Dinsmore welcomed Health Care Partner Tim Cahill, workers’ compensation firm Dawson & Associates (four attorneys), five fall associates, and Borowicz was promoted to office managing partner, making Dinsmore the top-ranked female-led firm in the Capital City.
