Dinsmore’s New Patent Practice Group Chairs Focus on Continued National Growth

Dinsmore & Shohl LLP’s Patent Procurement & Management Practice Group has named two new co-chairs, as partners Matthew Molloy and Brian Tent are stepping into leadership roles. Molloy, who works out of the firm’s Dayton office, started with Dinsmore in 2004, while Tent joined the Cincinnati office three years later.

“Matt and I have worked together now for 13 years, and we have collaborated well and often, both servicing clients and on firm initiatives,” Tent said.

Molloy added that their different perspectives and experiences are helpful in accomplishing tasks together and will benefit the practice group as a whole.

They are succeeding Bill Jividen, who stewarded the group to great success in the years since Dinsmore’s Intellectual Property Department branched off of the firm’s Litigation Department. Today, Dinsmore boasts over 70 registered patent attorneys across 13 of its 26 offices nationwide, including 23 in Dinsmore’s Cincinnati headquarters alone.

“Bill has been a mentor to both Brian and me throughout our careers,” Molloy said. “We look forward to carrying on the culture of quality service Bill has fostered during his time at the helm.”

Molloy and Tent, both in their early 40s, are part of a larger trend throughout Dinsmore of a younger group of attorneys taking leadership positions in 2020. Dinsmore Chairman and Managing Partner George Vincent, who began his fifth term this month, called it a “whole generational shift.”

“It’s exciting to see the next generation of folks stepping into leadership roles,” Vincent said. “They’ll not only carry on what we’ve built, but also put their own stamp on the firm, which makes this an exciting time.”

In the years to come, Tent and Molloy have eyes on continuing to grow the group in all of Dinsmore’s markets, and to do so in the reflection of the firm’s focus on diversity.

“One of our objectives is to have a significant patent presence in all of our markets,” Tent said. “Dinsmore is also very focused on diversity and inclusion. As we continue to expand our practice nationally, we are committed to making a difference in this area in collaboration with our global patent clients. ”
