Gianni, Origoni, Grippo, Cappelli & Partners launches GOP Cares Green

July, 2019 - Rome, Italy

Rome, July 19, 2019 – International law firm Gianni, Origoni, Grippo, Cappelli & Partners launches GOP Cares Green, a project aimed at reducing its environmental impact, which involves all the Firm’s professionals, employees and stakeholders. In its latest initiative, GOP announces the elimination of disposable plastic materials, replacing them with compostable alternatives - plastic bottles have been discontinued in favour of water dispensers, and professionals and employees have been provided with personal water bottles made of environmentally friendly material.

The Firm will save on about 350,000 bottles of water per year, equivalent to circa 3.5 tons of plastic and more than 13,000 kilograms of CO2, which would be the same amount of carbon dioxide produced if a plane travelled two times around the world or if a hypothetical train departed from Earth and journeyed to the Moon.

The initiative is part of a wider sustainability project, GOP Cares, based on the ESG (Environmental, Social, Governance) principles that draw together a series of action into one single plan, covering environment (GOP Cares Green), people (GOP Cares Social), and governance (GOP Cares Work), whose overall objective is supporting the sustainable development of the Firm itself.

In terms of environment, GOP has been committed to the cause for years by promoting recycling and managing waste; replacing the lighting fixtures in all of its offices with LEDs and other low-consumption technologies; carrying out a progressive digitalization aimed at reducing the usage of paper; employing devices with high energy efficiency in order to further reduce consumption; installing presence sensors which automatically switch off lighting. In addition, the Firm has more recently introduced incentives to promote sustainable mobility.

GOP Cares Social focuses attention on welfare policies within the Firm which was recognized this year as a "Welfare Champion" by the PMI 2018 Welfare Index that rewards excellence in this sector. Among the main initiatives of GOP Cares Social are: the baby bonus for employees and professionals; benefits for mothers and fathers when they return to work; flexibility in the use of parental leave and greater use of part-time work; a benefit plan accessible through an online platform that offers all employees a credit that can be spent on a wide range of ever-expanding activities and services.

Finally, GOP Cares Work focuses on governance and includes initiatives in favour of diversity and the forthcoming adoption of a code of ethics to guarantee high standards of conduct and inclusion policies.

Antonio Auricchio, co-Managing Partner of the Firm, states: “The GOP Cares project is a source of pride for us and confirms the Firm’s commitment in taking care of the environmental, economic and social context of our practice. We want to do our part for collective well-being. We have already achieved important results. Now the goal is to continue in this direction, integrating the project with other measurable initiatives based on international ESG standards and continuing to promote the sustainable development of the Firm. These are actions that can no longer be delayed ”.
