Dinsmore’s Denver Office Recruits Two Associates

March, 2020 - United States of America

Two associates have joined Dinsmore & Shohl LLP in Denver, bringing the office total to eight attorneys.

Dinsmore’s Denver office opened in 2014 in a merger with Peck Shaffer & Williams LLP. The office focused on public finance and has recently expanded the services to include litigation and IP.

“We’re thrilled to be expanding the office. Having new faces, new energy, new services and an influx of talented people is always a positive for the office and our clients,” said Erich Kennedy, Denver’s office managing partner.

Patrick M. Sweet is among the office’s newest talent, focusing on litigation. Sweet’s experience includes defending individuals and businesses in tort and contract disputes, including premises liability, construction defect, breach of contract, bad faith, negligence, product liability, and strict liability claims. He has also served as second chair during trials in federal and state courts. He earned his J.D. from the University of Denver Sturm College of Law, and received his B.J. in print and digital news and his B.A. in English from the University of Missouri.

LaWanda (Lou) Houston joins the office with a focus on intellectual property. Houston’s experience includes conducting first-pass document review, preparing and prosecuting patent applications, and writing detailed reports assessing the patentability of applicants’ inventions. She earned her J.D. from the University of Notre Dame Law School and received her B.S. in electrical engineering from Prairie View A&M University, where she graduated cum laude.

“Dinsmore’s track record of great client service and the opportunity to tackle complex and high-profile litigation issues led me to the firm,” Sweet said. “I’m excited to bring my litigation experience to a growing Denver office and help our clients secure positive outcomes.”
