Bradley Partner Aron Beezley Quoted in Law360 on Government's Decision to Waive Contracting Laws to Speed Up Border Wall

February, 2020 - United States of America

Bradley attorney Aron Beezley was quoted in Law360 on the government’s decision to waive federal procurement laws to speed up construction of the U.S.-Mexico border wall. The U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) is waiving procurement laws because of the high levels of unauthorized border crossings and drug trafficking. This decision will expedite wall building projects in California, Arizona, New Mexico and Texas.

Beezley said this was the first time DHS had invoked its authority under the 1996 Illegal Immigration Reform and Immigrant Responsibility Act to waive procurement laws.

“That in and of itself is very noteworthy,” he said.

He also said that he would not be surprised to see a lawsuit challenging the waiver.

“At this point, it’s not clear who would have standing to bring such a lawsuit, but nonetheless, I wouldn’t be surprised if a lawsuit gets filed challenging the waiver,” he added.
