China Business Law Journal: Heuking Mandate Wins “China Deal of the Year 2020“

February, 2021 - Germany

The China Business Law Journal has recognized a transaction led by Heuking attorneys Dr. Bodo Dehne and Sen Gao as one the "China Deals of the Year 2020". Every year the international China Business Law Journal identifies the landmark China-related deals. Among this year’s winners is the acquisition of the European apt Group by the Chinese Mengtai Group, which won a structured and competitive bidding process with the support of Heuking.

Dr. Bodo Dehne and Sen Gao are members of Heuking Kühn Lüer Wojtek's China Desk and regularly advise Chinese companies on their investments in Germany.

"It is a great success that the Mengtai Group was able to win the bidding process with our support and that we successfully got the transaction over the finish line as lead counsel with colleagues from the Netherlands and the Czech Republic. It is all the more gratifying that the China Business Law Journal has now recognized our cooperation and advisory services as one of the 'Winning Deals'," said Dr. Bodo Dehne.

On the China Business Law Journal website, you will find the most significant China deals in 2020 in alphabetical order. The Heuking deal report on advice to Mengtai Group can be found here.

China Business Law Journal selects winning deals based on several factors. The editors evaluate the overall significance, complexity and innovativeness of the deals, and deal volume and international attention also play a role in the selection. The deals were divided into four categories: Deals in China, Deals Abroad, Disputes and Investigations, and Belt and Road (New Silk Road). This is the second time that a transaction by members of the China Desk has been highlighted by the China Business Law Journal. In 2018, advice provided by a team led by Hamburg partner and head of the China Desk Dr. Kai Bandilla was recognized (see here).
