Our Statement Against Recent Anti-Semitic Hate

June, 2021 - San Francisco, California

June 11, 2021 (San Francisco, CA) – The past few months have seen an alarming rise in anti-Semitic hate and violence across the United States, including near our own Los Angeles office. The rise in anti-Semitic incidents is both shocking and, sadly, unsurprising. Many of our colleagues, clients, friends, and family members in the Jewish community have been impacted by these hate crimes and are struggling with how to cope. Hanson Bridgett is committed to solidarity with the Jewish community and publicly denounces anti-Semitism in all forms.

As a firm, we have been outspoken against systemic racism and police brutality against Black citizens, the heinous attacks on Asian-American Pacific Islander communities, and now, we stand in solidarity with our Jewish colleagues. We condemn the wave of anti-Semitism and anti-Semitic violence, and violence against any group based on race, religion, national origin, sexual orientation, or any other immutable characteristic, in the strongest possible terms. Decades ago, Martin Luther King, Jr. said that injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere—a statement that remains relevant and necessary today.

As members of the legal community, we have an obligation to speak out against injustice on behalf of the communities impacted and to take real action against all forms of racism and bigotry. As such, we are making available and encouraging all employees of the firm to attend training on bystander intervention and conflict de-escalation training. We will also make available additional training specific to issues of anti-Semitism later in the year through the Anti-Racism Boot Camp.
