Experienced Health Care Partner Kelly Leahy Continues Dinsmore’s Growth in Columbus

June, 2021 - Louisville, Kentucky

Dinsmore & Shohl LLP has welcomed its newest partner, Kelly Leahy, to the firm’s Columbus office. The addition expands Dinsmore’s leading national health care group, which is also among the largest in the state of Ohio.

Leahy has three decades of health law experience, including in private practice and serving as in-house counsel, giving practical and effective advice to a wide variety of institutional and individual health care clients. Her work with hospitals, nursing homes, medical spas, clinics, ambulance companies, hospice and home health providers enhances Dinsmore’s bench strength in institutional health care representation.

“I spent 10 years in house,” she said. “This experience makes me uniquely able to see things from a client’s perspective, to anticipate needs and opportunities and develop achievable solutions. Joining Dinsmore gives me a top-notch legal team to assist in finding those solutions.”

Leahy has a strong success record representing clients in compliance, corporate and transactional matters, including counseling on governance and the formation of new structures, including clinically integrated networks to address marketplace trends, such as value-based payment. She is excited to now have Dinsmore’s national horsepower behind her to service her clients.

“Dinsmore’s health care team has a great reputation not only in Columbus, but also nationally,” Leahy said. “Collaborating with the team here at Dinsmore is something I am looking forward to. The group covers an array of states while still keeping the collegiality that piqued my interest.”

Outside of representing providers, Leahy enjoys mentoring younger attorneys.

“Sharing knowledge to help younger attorneys brings me a lot of satisfaction,” she said. “I care about my clients, my practice and helping others grow and develop as lawyers.”

Health Care Practice Group Co-Chair Eric Plinke, who also sits in Dinsmore’s Columbus office, is looking forward to Leahy’s addition.

“We are excited to have Kelly join us at Dinsmore and in our expanding group,” Plinke said. “Her client-service base and experience align with our existing services, and her joining the firm represents the continued expansion of the capabilities we have in serving our health care clients’ growing needs.”

Dinsmore’s commitment to service in its communities was especially important to Leahy. She previously acted as president and plans to stay involved with The Mother Ship, a nonprofit that supports local parents and caregivers of special-needs children.

Leahy earned her JD from Capital University Law School. When not in the office, Leahy enjoys time with her family, sports, reading and traveling near and far.
