Environmental and sustainability lawyer Maria Christina Motta Gueorguiev is the newest partner of Veirano Advogados. On top of a successful career spanning more than 20 years, Maria Christina will lead the Firm's Environment practice and join other partners in advancing ESG-related services.

Maria Christina regularly assists a host of entities – companies, associations, financial institutions, multilateral agencies, governments and non-governmental organizations – in legal matters encompassing environmental, sustainability and climate change. Her practice covers a broad range of works, including consulting, litigation and relationship/negotiation with environmental authorities on many fronts: industry, forestry, real estate, energy (solar, wind, thermal, hydro and biomass), O&G, sanitation, mining, agribusiness and financial services, among others. Maria Christina's vast experience also includes sustainable finance, ESG criteria, infrastructure projects (ports, highways, waterways and airports), crisis management and indigenous peoples.

Managing partner Ricardo Veirano states that “the ever-growing role of the environment in businesses' operations, reinforced by the advent of ESG, makes the perfect timing for the arrival of Maria Christina. We are confident that she will take our Environment practice to new heights while exploring synergies with our many partners and practices.”

“I believe that my previous experience with highly complex litigation, consulting and transactions, for various economic sectors and in a multidisciplinary and strategic manner, in addition to negotiations with environmental authorities, will strengthen and diversify Veirano’s already prominent Environment practice, serving its clients even better,” comments Maria Christina, adding that “she sees her arrival as completely in line with the growing institutionalization of an area considered extremely important for Veirano, known for its modern and integrated business vision”.

According to industry publication Who's Who Legal, Maria Christina is an “environmental expert who is adept at dissecting complex problems to provide simple yet robust and well-grounded solutions” for her clients. Boasting additional recognitions from Chambers Latin America, Euromoney, Análise Advocacia 500 and Análise Advocacia Mulher, she spent many years of her career in a leading Brazilian business law firm. Between 2007-2008, she worked as a foreign visiting attorney in the Houston office of renowned US firm King & Spalding.

A Chevening Scholar, Maria Christina holds an LL.M. from University College London and a specialization certificate in Environmental Management from Universidade Estadual de Campinas (UNICAMP). She obtained her Bachelor of Laws degree at Universidade de São Paulo (USP) and recently concluded a course on Sustainable Finance with a focus on ESG at the University of Cambridge.
