A Heuking team led by Dr. Michael Sörgel advised electroplating specialist MTV NT GmbH on the sale of its production site in Solingen to Sunfire GmbH. The plant specializes in the electroplating of large industrial workpieces. Sunfire will be starting to manufacture its pressurized alkali electrolyzers for hydrogen projects on the 100 MW scale in the future. The production facility will be converted with the help of local experts in the coming months.

The acquisition is a necessary step in expanding Sunfire GmbH’s manufacturing capacity, as only a handful of companies are capable of processing components of the necessary size. For an increase in hydrogen production, the cornerstone for future energy storage, these capacity increases are a step towards expanding the company’s annual production to 1 GW by 2023.

MTV NT GmbH is a global market leader for functional surface coating. Established in 1945, the company operates production sites in Solingen and Mülheim (Ruhr). Its expertise in electroplating and its production capacities are a strong USP. After working for mining companies for 30 years, MTV NT GmbH has specialized in the new business field of alkali electrolyzer production.

Dresden-based Sunfire GmbH intends to expand its hydrogen production and is currently establishing a new value chain. The electroplating of the cells is essential for the components that are used in the production of alkaline electrolyzers. This metallic coating will now be carried out at the newly acquired Solingen site.
