Han Kun welcomes a new team to the firm's compliance practice

Han Kun Law Offices is pleased to welcome to the firm Michelle Gon, Sophie Shi, and Jolie Yan and their team, who each possesses expertise and extensive experience in the practice areas of corporate compliance and governance, anti-corruption, anti-monopoly and anti-unfair competition, white-collar crime, and internal and external compliance investigations. In welcoming these three legal elites and their team, Han Kun further enhances its ability to provide comprehensive compliance services and to better meet the compliance needs of clients. They will work closely with the firm's other practice teams to consistently provide clients with high-quality and professional legal services. They are based in Han Kun's Shanghai office.

Ms. Gon has more than 30 years of practice experience in the United States and Greater China and is recognized as an expert in cross-border compliance and regulatory areas. She has been featured in the Spotlight Table of "Corporate Investigations/Anti-Corruption: Foreign Legal Consultants – China" by Chambers Asia-Pacific in 2017, 2018, 2019, and 2020.

Ms. Gon is an expert in handling legal matters such as corporate compliance, regulatory and governance, anti-corruption, anti-monopoly and anti-unfair competition, white-collar crime, and internal and external corporate compliance investigations. She has extensive experience representing multinationals in complicated and challenging compliance and regulatory matters. She is familiar with Chinese legal practice and deeply experienced in advising on cross-border transactions involving China, the United States, and Europe. Ms. Gon is also skilled in advising on IP protection, acquisition, system establishment, trade secret protection, infringement defense strategies, and litigation negotiations. Her clients are from a diverse range of industries, including semiconductor, information technology, pharmaceutical, medical equipment, health care products, automobile, components, real estate, finance, food-related products, wine and spirits, and hospitality.

Before joining Han Kun, Ms. Gon practiced with Winston & Strawn as a partner, and held senior partner roles at two other international law firms. In addition, Ms. Gon also served as the chief legal officer of a high-tech enterprise based in China and as the in-house counsel for the international division of a multinational company, which is based in the U.S. and has investments spanning across the globe.

Ms. Shi focuses her practice on compliance (specifically anti-bribery, FCPA, anti-monopoly, competition law, and related risk assessment and investigations), general corporate, and regulatory and governmental affairs.

Ms. Shi is experienced in dealing with both Chinese and international legal matters and has handled many complex cases and significant projects in a variety of areas for both international and domestic clients. She also has extensive experience in dealing with government inquiries and investigations from various compliance aspects (including anti-corruption, anti-trust, anti-unfair competition, government procurement, and bidding compliance).

Before joining Han Kun, Ms. Shi practiced law for nearly 14 years in the Shanghai office of a well-known international law firm and with a domestic law firm. Ms. Shi is currently in the process of transferring her lawyer relationships and handling other relevant formalities.

Ms. Yan focuses her practice on anti-corruption, anti-unfair competition, white-collar crime, data security, corporate compliance, dispute resolution, and other matters. She has extensive experience handling legal disputes and crisis management relating to a wide variety of commercial activities.

Ms. Yan has represented and provided legal services to numerous multinational companies in relation to their compliance issues in China. The matters which Ms. Yan handles primarily include advising on government investigations, conducting internal compliance investigations, taking legal action against executives and employees for misconduct, researching and analyzing regulatory and policy changes, providing compliance planning legal assistance, and advising on enterprise operations. Ms. Yan represents clients across diverse industries, including technology, healthcare, automobile, aviation, industrial product manufacturing, retail, food, and education.

Before joining Han Kun, Ms. Yan practiced law for several years with a law firm focusing on corporate investigations and anti-corruption. Prior to entering private practice, Ms. Yan served as a prosecutor for many years for a people’s procuratorate in Shanghai. Ms. Yan is currently in the process of transferring her lawyer relationships and handling other relevant formalities.
