Han Kun welcomes two legal experts in the energy sector, boosting cross-border M&A capabilities
Han Kun is pleased to announce that Mr. Tao Lan and Ms. Gloria Wang have recently joined the firm. They have handled numerous M&A transactions and investment projects in the conventional energy sector and have in recent years expanded their services to include renewables, gaining high recognition from clients in these fields. They are particularly experienced in advising clients on cross-border transactions, having represented both large multinationals in entering the Chinese market and Chinese companies in making investment overseas.
Owing to their in-depth knowledge and extensive experience in relevant fields, their addition to Han Kun will further enhance the firm's competitive edge in the energy and infrastructure sector and its practice capabilities in cross-border transactions. They will be primarily based in the firm's Beijing office.
Tao Lan
Mr. Lan focuses his practice on advising clients on cross-border M&A transactions and investment. He is experienced in representing foreign investors in their acquisition and divestiture of China operations, as well as counseling Chinese companies in connection with their outbound investments across a wide spectrum of industry sectors. In his 20 years of practice, Mr. Lan has participated as lead counsel in numerous such global transactions, particularly many of the largest, most complex outbound investments ever undertaken by Chinese companies in the field of oil and gas, minerals and infrastructure, the aggregate value of which is in the tens of billions of U.S. dollars. Mr. Lan's in-depth engagement in those landmark transactions has given him firsthand experience of China's expansive involvement in the global economy over the past two decades.
Before joining Han Kun, Mr. Lan was a partner at leading international law firms for over 12 years; he was also a partner at another leading Chinese law firm for two years. Mr. Lan graduated from Renmin University of China with an LL.B. degree in 1996. In 2003, he received his J.D., cum laude, from St. Louis University School of Law.
Gloria Wang
Ms. Wang is a cross-border transactional lawyer who boasts over a decade of experience in advising clients across different industrial sectors in cross-border investments. She has been involved in transactions with a combined value of over US$10 billion, encompassing multiple jurisdictions across six continents. Her expertise extends to designing intricate transaction structures, negotiating complex documentation, and addressing multifaceted legal issues for her clients.
With a specialized focus on the energy sector, Ms. Wang represents national oil companies (NOCs), international oil companies (IOCs), and other key players in the energy industry, handling transactions and legal matters throughout the entire energy value chain, from upstream E&Ps to midstream and downstream operations, providing comprehensive and tailored legal support.
Prior to joining Han Kun, Ms. Wang served as counsel at Sidley Austin and held positions at several other renowned international firms. Ms. Wang graduated from Peking University Law School with a LL.B. degree in 2008. In 2009, she received her LL.M. degree from William & Mary Law School.
