Safe Alliance Recognizes Bradley's Charlotte Office, Leah M. Campbell for Pro Bono Contributions
Bradley is pleased to announce that Leah M. Campbell and the firm were recognized by Safe Alliance for their pro bono contributions at the organization’s Pro Bono Awards Ceremony on April 19.
Safe Alliance is an organization dedicated to providing hope and healing for those impacted by domestic violence and sexual assault. They provide assistance through several programs and services including a confidential hotline, a domestic violence shelter, a court advocacy program for victims, a trauma resource center and other counseling and support groups.
The attorneys in Bradley’s Charlotte office regularly contribute to the office’s pro bono work in support of the unmet needs for legal service in North Carolina. As part of those efforts, Bradley partners with Safe Alliance to assist victims of domestic violence with orders of protection.
Ms. Campbell has represented several Safe Alliance clients in the past year. When asked why she volunteers with Safe Alliance, Ms. Campbell said, “I volunteer my time to the Safe Alliance Victim Assistance Court program because I believe all people deserve respectful and competent representation in the court system. Domestic Violence Protection Orders (DVPOs) are one of many tools needed to help people leave abusive relationships, and, as an attorney, securing DVPOs is in my skill set. But there’s another element to the representation that’s important: Victims of domestic violence often internalize a (false) message that they are not worthy of support or care, and I hope that by hearing and advocating for them, we are countering that message.”
Ms. Campbell is a partner in Bradley’s Charlotte office and is a member of the firm’s Banking & Financial Services Practice Group. She has significant experience representing financial services and insurance company clients in both federal and state courts, as well as before state regulators, and has advised clients on GDPR implementation and cross-border encryption issues. She is a member of the National Association of Confidential Address Programs and is a frequent speaker on the topic of address confidentiality programs (ADCONS), which are state-sponsored programs designed to protect certain crime victims by keeping their addresses confidential when dealing with government agencies and private entities.
Bradley’s Pro Bono program helps address the unmet legal needs of indigent individuals and charitable organizations. Attorneys from across the firm’s offices devote a significant amount of time each year to pro bono work, representing individuals in matters ranging from death penalty and human rights cases to intellectual property work for low-income inventors, artists and entertainers.
