Han Kun endows and engages in "Broken-winged Angels" – a public benefit project to heal children with hand deformities

June, 2023 - Beijing, Mainland China

Every year since 2015, Dr. Yousheng Fang, Associate Chief of the Department of Hand Surgery at Shanghai Huashan Hospital, would go to remote, impoverished areas in Western China to provide free surgery and treatment to local children suffering from congenital hand defects. This year, the mission has evolved into a public benefit project named "Broken-winged Angels", which attracts enormous support from numerous individuals and organizations devoted to philanthropic causes. Han Kun serves as a sponsor of the project and has contributed broad effort and support.

The project kicked off on June 8, 2023, when Dr. Fang led his team to embark on a journey to Yili Prefecture, Xinjiang, where they worked with Xinhua Hospital of Yili Prefecture and offered free consultation and clinical treatment to local patients with limb deformities and hand defects at the hospital. The medical team was accompanied by representatives from Han Kun and Beijing Changrui Foundation, the sponsors of the project, which subsidized the medical treatment of seven children suffering from different types of congenital hand deformities such as syndactyly, windblown hand, camptodactyly, and scar contracture. The children are from various ethnic groups such as the Uyghur, Kazakh, and Hui ethnic groups. The expert consultations and professional medical treatment have substantially improved the children's health, bringing new hope and possibilities to their lives.

"Broken-winged Angels" has attracted the attention of many Han Kun partners who generously devoted their time and resources to facilitate the smooth progression of the project. Doctors who performed surgery on the patients also created contact files for each patient to monitor their health conditions and provide appropriate postoperative care. In the meantime, Han Kun, along with the project team, is actively planning and preparing for their subsequent activities in 2023.

In the future, Han Kun will continue to work closely with Huashan Hospital and other philanthropic organizations to bring aid to more people in need, making greater contributions to the development of philanthropic social causes.
