World Services Group is honored to recognize member winners of the Legal Business Awards 2023.These prestigious awards celebrate the top legal firms and in-house counsel in the region. WSG congratulates these winners who demonstrate excellence in practice representing the highest standards of WSG.
International Firm of the Year
This award focuses on important aspects such as strategy, management and client service. Garrigues was recognized for the firm’s international strategy and its dual multinational and multi-local focus, with international offices accounting for 13% of total revenues, led by Portugal and Latin America, the firm’s two largest markets after Spain. Garrigues’ excellent overall performance, with revenues of €443.2 million and the highest growth, in absolute terms, in the firm’s history. Moreover, recognition was given to the firm’s robust transactional activity, with Garrigues leading the Iberian market at year-end by number of deals (TTR, 2022). In management terms, the award also acknowledges the progress made by Garrigues on two strategic fronts: the digitalization of the firm, with €60 million invested over the past five years, and the firm’s ESG commitment, under the Garrigues Sustainable brand. Garrigues is the only European law firm to have won this accolade twice.
TMT Team of the Year
The TMT Team of the Year category winner demonstrates market-leading commercial or regulatory expertise through advice on a specific technology case or transactions. Shoosmiths was awarded the prestigious accolade for its expertise in advising on global Web3 and Metaverse strategies. These strategies have been on highly complex and nascent technology matters such as non-fungible tokens (NFTs), proof-of-attendance protocols (POAPs), augmented reality (AR), and the Metaverse, with Shoosmiths supporting its clients’ transition into these new, technologically focused markets. During 2022 and 2023, the team has built significant expertise in Web3 and Metaverse projects, regularly advising on cutting-edge transactions for a diverse range of top clients. The team now has a pre-eminent position in this emerging field, having played a key role on several transactions.
