Jack Harrington Discusses New Financial Crime & Economic Sanctions Team with the BBJ

December, 2024 - Birmingham, Alabama

Bradley attorney Jack Harrington was quoted in a Birmingham Business Journal article on the firm’s recently launched Financial Crime & Economic Sanctions team.

Harrington said the team will take a preventive approach to keeping financial institution clients secure.

“Whether it’s new forms of business email compromise or pig butchering, money laundering for human or drug trafficking networks, these are really serious challenges,” he said. “And in my experience, banks are very serious about their obligations under the law.”

“I’m an intelligence officer in the reserves still, and I’ve deployed to places like Afghanistan in the past,” Harrington said. “And so I’ve seen corruption, financial crimes — the deleterious effects that can have on society both domestically and overseas.”

Harrington added the team’s formation is timely given the current regulatory environment.

“The Department of Justice is demonstrating a renewed focus on criminal prosecutions of institutions and executives,” he said. “The ceiling for civil and criminal penalties continues to rise, as demonstrated by TD Bank’s historic $3.1 billion money laundering settlement announced earlier this year.”
