Dinsmore Expands National White Collar Defense and Government Investigations Practice with Heavyweight Addition in Washington, D.C.

January, 2025 - Louisville, Kentucky

Twenty years after first joining Dinsmore & Shohl LLP as a summer associate during law school, Shawn P. Davisson returns to the Firm as a partner in the White Collar Defense and Government Investigations group, practicing out of the Washington, D.C. office.

A veteran litigator, Shawn’s experience in internal investigations, criminal defense, FCA matters and regulatory enforcement has driven the successful defense of corporations, executives and public officials in high-stakes cases brought by the Department of Justice, the Securities and Exchange Commission and other federal agencies. He has played key roles in defending clients in many cases of national significance, including the BP Deepwater Horizon oil spill, Volkswagen’s “Dieselgate,” the Blackwater security incident in Iraq and investigations tied to the mortgage-backed securities crisis.

Shawn’s addition further solidifies the Firm’s reputation and capabilities for delivering exceptional results in complex investigations and enforcement actions. “With nearly two decades of experience at a global law firm, Shawn’s arrival strengthens our commitment to delivering strategic insight and advocacy at the center of federal regulatory activity,” said Lindsay Gerdes, co-chair of the practice. “He will be an invaluable resource for our clients.”

Dinsmore’s elite white collar defense and government investigations team routinely addresses clients' unique challenges in highly regulated sectors, including healthcare, financial services, energy and manufacturing. Whether managing internal investigations, responding to government inquiries or defending against complex enforcement actions, the Firm offers tailored solutions to mitigate risks and protect clients’ interests.

"Dinsmore offers the best of both worlds – big law quality and experience, but with greater resources and rate flexibility for clients," Shawn said. "The Firm’s national platform and our battle tested defense and investigations teams, including former federal prosecutors, provide the expertise and depth clients expect. Dinsmore can deliver first-class representation while also being more attuned to and aligned with clients' budgets, which addresses a critical need in the high-cost D.C. market and surrounding region.”

Beyond his core practice, Shawn is also deeply committed to pro bono service, with a recent focus on representing veterans in benefits claims and appeals. He also serves in a judicial role for the D.C. Bar’s Board of Professional Responsibility, adjudicating and overseeing cases involving attorney misconduct.

Shawn earned his J.D., magna cum laude, from The Ohio State University Moritz College of Law, where he was a law journal Managing Editor and graduated as a member of the Order of the Coif. He also holds an M.B.A., summa cum laude, from Sullivan University, where he graduated first in his class. Shawn completed his undergraduate studies at the University of Kentucky, graduating summa cum laude and Phi Beta Kappa from the University Honors Program.
