Major Boost for ENSafrica As It Attracts Five Top Ugandan Lawyers
ENSafrica, Africa’s largest law firm, has significantly bolstered its offering in Uganda through several senior appointments.
This ground-breaking shift has seen five of Uganda’s respected legal practitioners joining the firm in the past four months, bringing the combined years of experience of the firm’s Kampala office, ENSafrica Advocates, to over 150.
“The firm’s strengthened Ugandan offering is in line with ENSafrica’s focus on what’s best for the client and striving for excellence, in both offering and service, wherever clients do business across the African continent,” explains Mzi Mgudlwa, chief executive of ENSafrica.
The latest practitioner to join the firm’s ranks in Uganda is banking and finance specialist Maliza Kwera, who joined as a partner at the beginning of April. Kwera has extensive experience in banking and finance matters, especially in the preparation of securities. She also has expertise in corporate commercial, real estate/property and tax law.
Kwera’s appointment follows that of partners Phillip Karugaba, Rachel Musoke and Rehema Nakirya Ssemyalo, and senior associate Sheila Ann Pacuto.
Karugaba, a highly rated corporate commercial lawyer, joined the firm as its managing partner in Kampala in December. He has 24 years of experience and specialises in capital markets, M&A and private equity.
Following on the footsteps of Karugaba’s appointment, top-ranked banking and finance lawyer Musoke joined the firm in March. She leads the banking and finance team in Uganda, and further brings to the team expertise in real estate/property, construction, tax and employment law.
Also joining the firm in March was corporate law specialist Ssemyalo, who specialises in M&A, capital markets, private equity, corporate restructurings, energy, projects and infrastructure, and corporate commercial advisory work.
Otsile Matlou, ENSafrica’s COO in charge of practice integration, commented that: “ENSafrica is in Africa, for Africa. We are committed to the African continent and the strengthening of our Ugandan and East African offering reinforces this. Attracting top talent, such as Phillip, Rachel, Maliza, Rehema and Sheila, allows us to provide a much greater depth of services to our clients, and ties in with our commitment to providing clients with fast turnaround times and cost-effective outcomes regardless of where they do business in Africa.”
Karugaba added: “Uganda is a vital location for our clients. The firm’s accumulated know-how and solid on-the-ground experience in Uganda, as well as in Rwanda and Tanzania, allow us to provide our clients with an excellent offering, with our ability to expertly guide clients in minimising risk and leveraging business opportunities across the continent.”
ENSafrica is an independent law firm with over 100 years of experience in high-level, complex commercial work. The firm operates out of 15 fully integrated offices across Southern, West and East Africa and Mauritius.
