Dykema’s Robert A. Boonin Elected as Fellow of the American Bar Foundation

Dykema, a leading national law firm, announced today Detroit and Ann Arbor-based member Robert A. Boonin was elected to be a Fellow of the American Bar Foundation. Boonin was nominated by his peers and elected by the American Bar Foundation’s Board.

Fellows are an honorary organization of attorneys, judges, law faculty, and legal scholars whose public and private careers have demonstrated outstanding dedication to the welfare of their communities and to the highest principles of the legal profession. Membership is limited to 1 percent of lawyers licensed to practice in each jurisdiction. Established in 1955, the Fellows support the research of the American Bar Foundation through their annual contributions and sponsor seminars and events of direct relevance to the legal profession.

Boonin is a member of Dykema’s national Labor & Employment Practice Group and has successfully represented clients in wrongful termination, employment discrimination, wage and hour, tenure proceedings and other employment-related lawsuits and claims across the country. He has also represented employers in labor grievance arbitrations, labor negotiations, unfair labor practices, representational proceedings and labor strikes.

Boonin, who is also a Fellow in the College of Labor and Employment Lawyers and the Litigation Counsel of America (of which he is a former President), is extremely active in professional organizations. He is a member and former Chair of both the Wage and Hour Defense Institute of the Litigation Counsel of America and the State Bar of Michigan’s Labor and Employment Law Section, previously served as Chair of the Washtenaw County Bar Association’s Labor and Employment Law Section, is a current member of the National Association of College and University Attorneys, the Institute of Continuing Legal Education’s Advisory Board on Labor and Employment Law, the American Employment Law Council, and the Labor and Employment Relations Association. Boonin also is a Co-Founder and former Chair of the Michigan Council of School Attorneys. In addition, he co-chairs the American Bar Association’s FLSA Subcommittee and is a chapter editor of the treatises The Fair Labor Standard Act and Equal Employment Opportunity.

Boonin, who has been recognized as a leading Labor & Employment Lawyers by Chambers USA each year since 2010, received his J.D. from The University of Michigan Law School, a Master’s in Labor and Industrial Relations from the School of Labor and Industrial Relations of Michigan State University, and a B.S. in Economics from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania.
