Haynes and Boone Scores Again for NFL in Fantasy Football Convention Litigation

October, 2017 - Dallas, Texas

A Haynes and Boone, LLP team led by Partner Thad Behrens and Associate Charlie Jones scored another win for the National Football League in litigation pursued by a fantasy football convention company owned by former Dallas Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo.

Dallas County District Judge Bonnie Lee Goldstein granted summary judgment for the NFL in a lawsuit alleging that the league had tortiously interfered with certain sponsor contracts for a 2016 fantasy football convention the company had planned in Los Angeles. The company sought more than $10 million in damages. But Judge Goldstein on Sept. 26 ruled that the league had not tortiously interfered, that its actions were justified, and that it had not caused the company's alleged damages.

In 2016, Haynes and Boone won summary judgment for the NFL in a separate suit related to a 2015 convention Romo's company had planned.

The Haynes and Boone team led by Behrens and Jones included Associates Jamee Cotton, Carrington Giammittorio, Andrew Guthrie and Matt McGee and Partners Anne Johnson and Jon Pressment.
