Haynes and Boone Boosts Holiday Cheer Through Angel Tree

On Dec. 5, Haynes and Boone, LLP lawyers and staff helped load The Salvation Army DFW's antique fire engine and waiting trucks with hundreds of bags of Christmas gifts donated for Angel Tree recipients.
With a firm-wide effort coordinated through the library, Haynes and Boone lawyers and staff adopted 140 angels through the program this year, providing clothes, toys and other items for children, teens and some seniors whose families couldn't afford gifts. This was the ninth year the firm has teamed with PlainsCapital Bank and HFF on the Angel Tree project.
Recipients of Angel Tree gifts come from families who have applied for Christmas assistance through The Salvation Army. Angel Trees often are located in shopping malls, decorated with "angels" that contain information about each applicant. Businesses also adopt angels, who most often are children, as a service project for their employees. Volunteers shop for a specific recipient, and The Salvation Army later delivers the gifts.
Haynes and Boone Partner Sue Murphy was lead organizer of the firm's participation, assisted by Partner Monika Sanford and Associate Nick Monier, who will organize the program for Haynes and Boone next year. Murphy joined PlainsCapital Bank Victory Park President J.J. Gomez and the Salvation Army’s Major Barbara Rich, associate DFW Metroplex commander, for the delivery event to thank those who volunteered to help fulfill the Christmas wishes.
"We come together" for the effort, Murphy said, thanking the library, mail room and facilities staff who helped collect and load the donations. She noted that the project is often a family affair for donors: participants who are parents often choose angels the same age as their children then take their youngsters to shop for the gifts.
"We are pleased to participate in the Salvation Army Angel Tree program again this year to bring happiness to needy children this holiday season," Murphy said.
