Governor Snyder Names Jamie A. Zaniewski to Newly Formed Public Health Advisory Council

November, 2017 - Detroit, Michigan

Dykema, a leading national law firm, today announced that Jamie A. Zaniewski, Government Policy Advisor in the firm’s Lansing office, was appointed by Michigan Governor Rick Snyder to serve on the newly created Public Health Advisory Council (PHAC). Zaniewski’s term will expire November 1, 2018.

The PHAC was created to ensure the efficiency and accountability of the state’s public health system. Recommended by the Michigan Public Health Advisory Commission, the council will initially develop an action plan for implementing the recommendations of the commission. It also is tasked with providing advice about emerging issues in public health, monitoring the effectiveness of Michigan’s public health response system, and reviewing multiagency efforts to support collaboration and a unified approach on public health responses.

In a press release issued by the State of Michigan, Governor Snyder stated, “The Public Health Advisory Commission laid the groundwork for a more responsive and cohesive public health system in Michigan. The new council will continue this important task by turning recommendations into actions and improving the state’s response to public health threats. Our residents and their health should always come first and I’m confident this council will help improve the public health and safety of all Michiganders.”

Zaniewski focuses her work on health care, insurance, nonprofits, licensing and regulated industries. Through her diverse experiences working in the non-profit sector, legislature and executive office, she brings a unique perspective to formulating solutions.

Prior to Joining Dykema, Zaniewski served as Governor Snyder’s health care and insurance policy advisor. She previously worked as a policy advisor for the Senate Majority Leader in the Senate Majority Policy Office. Prior to coming to Lansing, Zaniewski was a contract administrator at one of the state's largest health systems, negotiating hospital, transplant and home health insurance contracts.

Zaniewski received a Masters of Public Policy (M.P.P.) from Pepperdine University and a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) in Political Science and Government from Western Michigan University.
