Chambers Global Recognizes 10 Haynes and Boone Lawyers in Eight Areas
The 2018 edition of Chambers Global recognized 10 Haynes and Boone, LLP lawyers across eight practices as leading providers of legal services in the international marketplace.
Clients and Chambers researchers praised Haynes and Boone, along with individual lawyers, doing work in the United States, Mexico and Latin America, reflecting another strong year for the firm.
Global-wide rankings
In the global-wide category, the firm's Franchise and Distribution Practice Group kept its solid banding, with the directory calling the team "versatile" and "renowned for its franchise-related litigation and arbitration," with ability to assist organizations with the full range of franchising issues. A client quote says: "The team inspires confidence and is always happy to help."
Franchising Partner Rob Lauer also maintained his individual global-wide banding. Chambers said: "Robert Lauer's practice benefits from his experience as in-house counsel for a large restaurant franchisor. Based in Austin, Texas, he leads the firm on many of its highest-profile deals."
Latin American-wide rankings
The Corporate/M&A Practice Group again was recognized in the Latin America-wide listing, with Partners Larry Pascal and George Y. Gonzalez maintaining their rankings.
Chambers called the group a "well-regarded practice advising on corporate mandates throughout the region, with a particular strength in Mexico."
The directory said Pascal "is recognized by market commentators for his practice within the Latin American corporate arena. He is regularly called upon to assist with cross-border transactions and has considerable sector knowledge related to aviation, infrastructure and energy, as well as real estate and financial services."
Gonzalez "is well known to interviewees for his practice in this field" and has "noteworthy" experience in joint ventures and corporate matters involving energy and natural resources, "with a particular focus on Mexican mandates."
Mexico rankings
The Banking & Finance Practice Group was ranked in Mexico, along with Partner Jorge Labastida.
Chambers said the group "acts for highly regarded multilateral banks, advising on cross-border mandates, including standby letters of credit and real estate development financings," with support from the Dallas and Houston offices.
The firm again was recognized for Corporate/M&A in Mexico, and Chambers said the team was "highlighted for its activity in the country's energy sector, advising clients on relevant M&A."
The practice ranking for Energy & Natural Resources in Mexico included Partner Nicolas Borda maintaining his top-level individual banding and gaining new recognition as a foreign expert on Energy & Natural Resources. Partner Jorge Sánchez also was newly recognized for Energy & Natural Resources.
Chambers called the group a "notable practice fielding an experienced team in the energy and natural resources ambit."
The directory said Borda "is endorsed by interviewees as a leading lawyer in the energy and natural resources sphere. . . He also has considerable experience advising well-known companies on cross-border transactions. Market sources describe him as 'very active' and highlight his 'top-quality service.' He offers vast expertise in U.S. law and is admitted to practice in New York."
USA rankings
The USA ranking for Haynes and Boone's Bankruptcy/Restructuring Practice was highlighted by recognition for Senior Counsel Robert Albergotti and Partner Charles A. Beckham Jr.
Chambers said Albergotti "is a 'very well respected' restructuring expert who frequently acts for debtors in Chapter 11 proceedings, as well as handling distressed M&A."
Charles Beckham, the directory said, "receives praise for his expertise in handling oil and gas sector insolvencies, acting for creditors' committees, secured lenders and other parties. Sources label him 'a great practitioner' and appreciate his 'ability to bring people together.'"
Two Haynes and Boone partners were recognized individually for Intellectual Property.
David McCombs was newly ranked for Patent law, with the directory saying he 'is 'an expert in patent proceedings,' according to impressed interviewees, who also highlight his ability to 'provide excellent advice at the strategy level.'" Chambers also noted his "leading PTAB practice," which is complemented by notable experience in federal court litigation at both trial and appellate stages.
Jeffrey Becker again was ranked for Trademark, Copyright & Trade Secrets. Chambers called him "a go-to attorney for a range of clients, providing high-level strategic advice on trademark enforcement policies and impressive experience in litigating trademark and copyright concerns."
