Nina Cortell Recognized Among Lawdragon’s 500 Leading Lawyers

Lawdragon, a legal media company, has named Haynes and Boone, LLP Partner Nina Cortell among its "500 Leading Lawyers in America" for 2018.
This is the fourth straight time for Cortell to make the Lawdragon 500.
Those selected include high-profile practitioners, top administration lawyers, litigators who have made headlines in billion-dollar cases and all nine U.S. Supreme Court justices.
In announcing the list, Lawdragon said: "These are lawyers who inspire with their public interest leadership, their vision of the rule of law and its relationship to our lives, our economies and our governance."
A leading appellate litigator, Cortell has successfully argued numerous cases on behalf of some of Texas' largest corporations. Her record includes recent significant victories in state and federal appellate and trial courts. In the Texas Supreme Court’s 2016-2017 term, she secured two wins for ExxonMobil in cases involving the Texas anti-SLAPP statute and agency law. And in the 5th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals, she recently represented Trinity Industries in a landmark reversal of a $636 million False Claims Act judgment and Texas Capital Bank in defeating multimillion-dollar lender liability claims.
In 2017, Texas Lawbook named Cortell among the "Lions of the Texas Bar." And the Texas Bar Foundation presented her with the 2016 Greg Coleman Outstanding Appellate Lawyer Award. She co-founded the Center for Women in Law at the University of Texas School of Law and received the school’s 2012 Distinguished Alumnus Award for Community Service. She also was recognized with the 2013 Jack Pope Professionalism Award from the Texas Center for Legal Ethics.
