Richard Cheng and Rick Daniel Join Dykema’s Growing Dallas Office

February, 2018 - Detroit, Michigan

Dykema, a leading national law firm, today announced the addition of Richard Y. Cheng and Rick A. Daniel to the firm’s growing Dallas office, which has now added 11 attorneys in the past eight months. The firm’s rate of growth in North Texas has been so rapid in recent months that it has had to arrange for additional space in the Comerica Bank Tower, where the office is located.

“We continue to expand in North Texas, including by adding top legal talent focused on health care and corporate transactions,” said Chris Kratovil, Dykema’s Dallas Office Managing Member. “We are very excited to add both Richard and Rick to our growing roster of attorneys in DFW.”

Cheng, who joins Dykema as a member in its Health Care Practice Group, focuses his practice on corporate transactions, regulatory, administrative appeals and compliance matters. He has an extensive health care law practice, with particular concentration representing providers in the post-acute care continuum, management service organizations, community hospitals, physician groups, pharmacies, wellness providers, clinical labs, therapy clinics, regulated products providers (e.g. medicinal cannabis) and other ancillary healthcare providers.

Cheng comes to Dykema from a large regional Texas firm. He also previously served as general counsel and vice president at two separate health care companies, where he assisted with change of ownership transactions, counseled on operational legal matters and worked closely with outside counsel managing multiple litigation matters. Cheng also created the medical appeals departments at both health care organizations, overseeing multiple staff members, resulting in the successful recovery of millions of dollars in governmental and private health care insurance claims.

Cheng earned a J.D. from Nova Southeastern University Shepard Broad Law Center, a B.S.O.T./M.O.T., cum laude, from the Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center, a Graduate Certificate of Public Health from The University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston, and a B.A. in Biology from the University of Texas at Dallas. He is also currently working toward earning an M.B.A. from The University of Memphis. Cheng has a Certification in Healthcare Compliance (CHC) through the Certification Compliance Board (CCB).

Daniel, who joins Dykema as senior counsel in its Corporate Finance Practice Group, is experienced in the transactional areas of commercial debt finance of all types, commercial real estate finance, complex commercial transactions, and commercial real estate. He has extensive experience representing lenders, borrowers, developers, and other clients across various industries with complex credit facilities, intercreditor issues, acquisition financing, workout and restructuring of commercial loans, purchase and sale of real property, construction financing, foreclosure of Deeds of Trust, and complex commercial contracts.

Daniel previously practiced as a shareholder with Polsinelli PC in its financial services and real estate practices, and was a partner with K&L Gates LLP in its Banking and Asset Finance practice group and its Real Estate Investment, Development and Finance practice group.

Daniel earned a J.D., with high honors, from the University of Arkansas at Little Rock William H. Bowen School of Law, and a B.S. in Biomedical Science, cum laude, from Texas A&M University.
