Dykema's Bonnie Kirkland Commences Term as President of the San Antonio Young Lawyer's Association
Dykema, a leading national law firm, announced today that Bonnie Kirkland, San Antonio-based senior attorney in the firms Litigation Department, began her term as President of the San Antonio Young Lawyers Association (SAYLA) earlier this month. Before taking over as President, Kirkland served SAYLA in a variety of positions in the past, including treasurer and board member.
SAYLA provides opportunities and avenues for young and newly licensed attorneys to network with other attorneys and non-attorneys, socialize, learn and earn CLE credits, give back to the community, and enjoy their chosen profession. The organization was formed nearly 70 years ago as the San Antonio Junior Bar Association, an entity of the San Antonio Bar Association (SABA). In 1974, the members of the Junior Bar officially formed the corporate structure that is now SAYLA, a separate non-profit organization entirely run by volunteers.
In her practice, Kirkland advises clients on litigation, including all stages of pretrial and trial work in state and federal court. She has represented clients in disputes involving breach of contract, insurance coverage, administrative investigations and other business and commercial matters. Kirkland also has valuable experience advising clients with regard to labor and employment issues, including wage and hour issues, discrimination claims, employee training, and compliance with federal and state employment laws.
In addition to SAYLA, she serves on the Graduates of the Last Decade (GOLD) council for the St. Marys University School of Law Alumni Association. Kirkland is also a member of the San Antonio Bar Association and Dykemas Texas Associates Committee. She also previously held several leadership positions with professional organizations during her time as a member of the Corpus Christi business community.
Kirkland earned her J.D., summa cum laude, from St. Marys University School of Law, and a B.B.A., with honors, in International Business from The University of Texas at Austin.
