Dykema’s Chicago Office Adds Three Attorneys

March, 2019 - Chicago, Illinois

Dykema, a leading national law firm, today announced the addition of Michael A. Dorfman, Robert “Dean” Hagan, and Heidi J. Herman to its Chicago office. Dorfman joins Dykema as Member in its Intellectual Property and IP Litigation Department, while Hagan and Herman each join as Senior Counsel in the firm’s Real Estate Practice Group.

“We are very fortunate to add such well-regarded and experienced attorneys to our Chicago office,” said Michael Borders, Vice Chairman of Dykema and Office Managing Member of the firm’s Chicago office. “Our clients will no doubt benefit from the additional strength they add to our Intellectual Property and Real Estate practices.”

Dorfman comes to Dykema after spending nearly two decades with Katten Muchin Rosenman LLP. In his practice, he represents technology companies in intellectual property and other litigation, including litigation relating to patent infringement, trade secret misappropriation, unfair competition and contract disputes. Dorfman also handles inbound and outbound licenses as well as transactions involving the purchase or sale of patent portfolios. He handles all aspects of litigation—from pre-filing investigation and counseling through trial or settlement—and routinely litigates significant actions in federal courts across the country, including major federal dockets such as the Eastern District of Texas, the District of Delaware, the Northern District of California, and the Northern District of Illinois. In addition, Dorfman participated in some of the earliest inter partes review proceedings at the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office. He earned a J.D. from the DePaul University College of Law and a B.S. in Electrical Engineering from the University of Illinois.

Hagan joins Dykema after practicing at his own firm, Hagan & Vidovic LLP, which was established in 1996. Prior to that, he was an associate and partner at Mayer Brown for 22 years. Hagan is an experienced and well-regarded attorney whose practice includes the acquisition and disposition of real estate, leasing, financing, joint ventures and agreements relating to property management and construction, with experience in office buildings, retail properties, industrial properties, multi-family properties and hotels, among others. He earned a J.D. from the University of Chicago and a B.A., cum laude, from the University of Notre Dame.

Herman also comes to Dykema from Hagan & Vidovic LLP, where she practiced for more than a decade. Earlier in her career, she served as General Counsel at Bear Necessities Pediatric Cancer Foundation, Inc. She is an alumnus of Mayer Brown LLP, as well as the Schwartz Cooper firm, which combined with Dykema in 2008. Herman has substantial experience representing investment managers and owners in leasing matters, as well as real estate purchases and sales. She earned a J.D., with honors, from the DePaul University School of Law and a B.B.A. from the University of Michigan, Ross School of Business.
