Clean Energy Expert Clare Foster Appointed to RenewableUK Board

 

Clare Foster, Shepherd and Wedderburn’s Head of Clean Energy, has been appointed to the Board of industry body RenewableUK.

Clare’s appointment recognises her market-leading renewable energy finance expertise across multiple clean energy technologies.

She joins eight other senior industry leaders elected by RenewableUK members or ‘co-opted’ by invitation for their specific skillsets and expertise.

RenewableUK said the new board structure will “ensure that it continues to represent the range of technologies covered by the association”.

Clare said: “I’m honoured to have been invited to join the Board at RenewableUK.

“The organisation is a force for good, supporting the industry in making the huge strides needed for the transition to a net zero emissions future.

“This is a unique and exciting time for the UK energy sector, and I hope that my experience of working in this sector for more than 20 years will help RenewableUK and its members further advance the cause.”

The new RenewableUK Board positions announced comprise:

Julian Brown, Vice President and UK Country Manager, MHI Vestas Offshore Wind (re-appointment);
David Matthews, Northern Europe Sales Director, GE Renewables (re-appointment);
Gareth Swales, Commercial Director, Fred.Olsen Renewables (new appointment);
Benj Sykes, UK Country Manager for Offshore, Ørsted and Industry Chair of the Offshore Wind Industry Council (OWIC) (re-appointment);
Clare Foster, partner and Head of Clean Energy, Shepherd and Wedderburn LLP (co-opted);
Martin Dronfield, Group Business Development Director, James Fisher and Sons plc (co-opted);
Rishi Madlani, Sustainable Finance Lead, Royal Bank of Scotland Group plc (co-opted);
Ian Bryan, Managing Director, Global Marine Group (co-opted); and
Roisin Quinn, Head of National Control for National Grid Electricity System Operator (co-opted).

RenewableUK supports more than 400 member companies collectively employing more than 250,000 people.

Stephen Bull, Senior Vice President, Wind and Carbon Capture and Storage at Equinor, and Chair of RenewableUK, said: “It’s great to have these industry heavyweights offering their wealth of experience to RenewableUK.

“They will help to set the agenda at a crucial time, as the government has committed to achieving net zero emissions by 2050, and Ministers are due to publish an Energy White Paper which is expected to set out a new strategy for the power sector.

“The industry is implementing the landmark Offshore Wind Sector Deal, and we’re continuing to make a strong case for supporting onshore wind and marine energy.

“On a wider level, we’re re-thinking the way our entire energy system works as we incorporate more renewable power onto the grid. Our Board plays the central role in ensuring we achieve our objectives.”
