Dykema Helps Investors Capitalize on Tax Incentives with Launch of Opportunity Zone Resource Center

June, 2019 - Detroit, Michigan

Dykema, a leading national law firm, is proud to announce that its Taxation Practice Group has launched the Dykema Opportunity Zone Resource Center (“OZ Center”) to help its clients and interested parties better understand the rules for investing in qualified opportunity zones, which offer a number of tax incentives to investors.

The qualified opportunity zones incentives program may be the hottest topic in the real estate and investing industries. The 2017 Tax Act (Pub. L. No. 115-97) introduced the program designed to encourage investments in low-income communities throughout the country that were designated as qualified opportunity zones (“Opportunity Zones”). In October 2018 and again in April 2019, the Internal Revenue Service and the Treasury proposed detailed regulations providing important guidance related to Opportunity Zone investments.

To help interested investors wade through the complexities involved, Dykema’s OZ Center will regularly report on the latest developments, general news, policy positions, publications and links to public information relating to Opportunity Zones.

Dykema has long been at the forefront of assisting and educating investors with regard to Opportunity Zones. The firm’s Tax Group has not only guided several clients in establishing successful investments, but they have published timely and relevant client alerts and also held numerous events designed to inform interested parties about what they need to know and how to capitalize on tax savings.

Dykema’s taxation lawyers are well-versed in the complexities of federal, state and local tax law, and provide high-level representation on the full range of tax issues to business, nonprofit and government entities as well as high-net-worth individuals. The firm’s attorneys craft strategic solutions that help clients defer or reduce their tax liabilities and comply with the evolving tax law landscape, as well as structure a range of economically sound, tax-efficient transactions. Dykema attorneys represent clients in adversarial tax proceedings—such as audit controversies, administrative proceedings and litigation in all judicial forums available to taxpayers.
