Atlanta Inno, an online technology publication, named MMM attorney Bess Hinson to its inaugural group of “50 on Fire.” The honorees include the 50 companies and individuals Inno says are driving and defining the region’s innovation economy and making major moves in the tech ecosystem. Inno celebrated the 50 at a sold-out event June 7 on the rooftop of Ponce City Market. Judges chose the 50 winners from hundreds of nominations.
Hinson chairs MMM’s Cybersecurity & Privacy Practice. She has counseled almost 200 companies in the past year alone. They range from cutting-edge technology and hospitality companies to well-known global enterprises. Her primary areas of concentration include cyber and data risk management and governance, breach preparedness and response, crisis management and global data privacy compliance.
She founded the Atlanta Women in Cybersecurity Roundtable, whose members include chief information security officers, chief privacy officers, and in-house corporate leadership roles responsible for cybersecurity and/or privacy, including general counsel. She also spearheaded a partnership between the Roundtable and the Girl Scouts of Atlanta to educate scout troops about cybersecurity, giving them an opportunity to earn a new badge.
Hinson is also a member of the American Lawyer’s Young Lawyer Editorial Board and has contributed to several of its editorials. She also belongs to the Young Women Leaders Forum of Atlanta and the Georgia Chamber Innovation and Technology Committee and Cyber Security Working Group.
She frequently speaks to groups in a wide range of industries to make them aware of how important – and how insidious – data breaches can be. Upcoming speaking engagements include the Georgetown Law School University Hotel and Lodging Legal Summit in October. She will moderate a panel on Global Cyber Wars at the World Services Group annual meeting in September in Washington, D.C.
Hinson was the only individual that Inno recognized in the Cybersecurity category – all the other honorees are companies.
