Jen is an employment lawyer with over 12 years experience advising clients on all aspects of employment law. Jen qualified as a solicitor in Scotland in 2012 and started her career in house, working for Scotland's largest local authority for 6 years before moving into private practice and joining Shoosmiths in August 2020. She is based within the Scottish employment team.

 

In her career she has represented clients at Employment Tribunals throughout the UK and also in the Employment Appeal Tribunal, conducting all of her own advocacy. She also provides day to day employment advice and support to HR teams on a range of matters including disciplinaries, grievances and absences. In addition, she provides corporate support to our corporate teams in a commercial and solution driven fashion. Recent work highlights include:

 

-Representing Amey Services Limited at both the ET and EAT in Bennett and others v Amey Services Limited and others litigation (see Mr B Bennett and others v Amey Service Ltd and others: 4100017/2018 and others - GOV.UK (www.gov.uk) ) which has provided instructive guidance on TUPE transfers involving multiple transferees.

-Provided employment support as part of a large real estate transaction between two household name companies, which involved complex and high pressure negotiation of indemnity provisions

- Supported a high profile Scottish client with the restructure of its senior management team

- Provided advice and support to a client in the food and drinks sector on implementation of a significant workforce change due to the increased move to automation 

- Negotiated and concluded a complex settlement agreement for an employer client which involved cross jurisdictional advice and complex tax and share considerations 

- Partnered with an infrastructure client to navigate a complex industrial action situation 

 

Jen is also a Director and Board Member for Scottish charity, Flexibility Works, which champions flexible working in Scotland. She is part of Shoosmiths CSR committee and provides support on Shoosmiths behalf to the EY Foundation.
