Profile
My practice includes advising clients on employment and industrial relations matters arising from corporate restructuring, defending clients in health and safety prosecutions, conducting or managing large and sometimes complex investigations into employee misconduct, representing clients in courts and tribunals, assisting clients in Royal Commissions and presenting seminars and training on workplace law issues. I have consistently ranked in Best Lawyers for Labour and Employment and Doyle's Guide WA for Employment. I am also the recipient of the Attorney-General's Community Service Law Award.
Career highlights
- Representing a major mining industry service provider in the largest occupational health and safety prosecution undertaken in Western Australia.
- Providing strategic advice to a state government agency relating to employment implications arising from proposed changes to the legislative scheme under which the agency operated.
- Providing strategic advice to the state government on the impact of the Work Choices legislation on the state industrial relations system.
- Advising and representing a not-for-profit organisation before the Australian Human Rights Commission (AHRC) regarding a complaint of discrimination in employment on the ground of religious beliefs.
- Representing a large residential high rise construction company in WA in a Federal Court claim brought by the CFMMEU in which the CFMMEU challenged the employment status of workers engaged as contractors through a labour hire company which was alleged to be a sham resulting in the worker being underpaid.
- Preparing on behalf of a number of large metropolitan local governments, submissions to the Ministerial Review of the Western Australian Industrial Relations System.
- Conducting investigations on behalf of employers regarding employee misconduct.
- Advising and drafting a range of a modern award and NES compliant common law contracts for an employer in the construction industry.
- Advising on senior executive remuneration issues including incentive programs and drafting common law contracts for various CEOs.
- Advising employers in relation to complex payroll audits where potential underpayment issues have been identified.
