Profile
Simona Halakova is a partner in Cechova &Partners. She has joined the firm in 2000. She is an associated member of the Slovak Bar Association since 1998 and passed the Bar exams in 2001. Before joining Cechova & Partners, she worked with Aliancia Advokatov Law Firm and also with Agner & Gorner Law Firm during her university studies.

Simona graduated from the Law Faculty of Comenius University, Bratislava, Slovakia and received M.A. in 1998. She completed her dissertation work in Civil law focused on Security of obligations and received her Dr. Jur. in 2001. She is a Slovak national and is fluent in English and Czech.

During her previous practise, Simona Halakova has gained practical experience in the areas of civil law and civil litigation as well as commercial law and commercial litigation.

While working with the firm, Simona gained significant experience in the area of M&A and privatisation transactions. She was involved in a number of due diligence examinations dealing with analysis of regulatory compliance, banking regulation, intellectual property law, contracts and real estates. Simona, among others, participated on advising an Austrian bank in the acquisition of shares in a first private bank in the Slovak republic, advising a leading european bank in bidding for the acquisition of a majority stake of shares in the privatisation of the largest Slovak savings bank and advising an Italian bank in the successful tender for the acquisition of a majority stake of shares in the privatisation of the largest commercial bank in Slovakia.

In the area of financial restructuring and reorganisation, Simona Halakova participated on advising the largest steel producer in Slovakia in a process of financial restructuring and reorganisation, where the team of Slovak lawyers has been lead by Katarina Cechova, who served as the leading Slovak counsel to a bank consortium consisting of more than 40 international and domestic banks.

Simona participated in a number of asset and business transfers and has also been involved in advising various foreign companies in the process of establishing their subsidiaries/branches in the Slovak Republic and in the process of corporate changes related to their operations established in the Slovak Republic.

On a regular basis, Simona provides legal assistance to foreign clients in various regulatory fields, including banking, insurance, trading with securities, as well as in the area of telecommunications, energetic and the law of regulated network industries.

Serving as a general legal counsel of an important client of the firm, she deals with different legal issues, including consumer protection, area of commercial contracts and employment issues.

Her professional experience covers the areas of corporate and commercial law, law of contracts, as well as the area of regulatory law including banking, insurance, trading with securities, telecommunications and energetic.

Active participation on advising three major investment funds in the dispute arisen in the process of the second wave of coupon privatisation, including practical litigation experience from numerous court hearings;

Participation on a number of mergers and acquisitions, including due diligence examinations in target companies dealing with analysis of regulatory compliance, banking regulation, contracts and real estates;

Participation on advising an Austrian bank in the acquisition of shares in a first private bank in the Slovak republic;

Participation on advising a leading European bank in bidding for the acquisition of a majority stake of shares in the privatisation of the largest Slovak savings bank;
