Hospitality, Alcohol, and Leisure Industry Client Alert – TTB Eliminates Distinction Between Standards of Fill for Distilled Spirits in Cans and Other Types of Containers

On Jan. 10, 2024, the TTB issued new rules that allow for 13 additional standards of fill for wine and 15 additional standards for distilled spirits.
Newly Approved Wine Standards of Fill:
180 ml | 600 ml |
300 ml | 620 ml |
330 ml | 700 ml |
360 ml | 720 ml |
473 ml/ 16 oz | 1.8 liters |
500 ml | 2.25 liters |
568 ml/ 19.2 oz |
The above standards of fill for wine are in addition to the previously approved standards of: 50 ml; 100 ml; 187 ml; 200 ml; 250 ml; 355 ml; 375 ml; 500 ml; 750 ml; 1 liter; 1.5 liters; and 3 liters.
Newly Approved Distilled Spirits Standards of Fill for Cans and Containers Other Than Cans:
187 ml | 570 ml |
250 ml | 710 ml |
331 ml | 945 ml |
350 ml | 1.5 liters |
335 ml | 2 liters |
475 ml | 3 liters |
500 ml | 3.75 liters |
The above standards of fill for distilled spirits are in addition to the previously approved standards of: 50 ml; 100 ml; 200 ml; 375 ml; 700 ml; 720 ml; 750 ml; 900 ml; 1 liter; 1.75 liters; and 1.8 liters.
