As applications for Module 3 Core Participant (CP) status drew to a close on 5 December 2022, the Inquiry team have announced two key dates, as we continue to monitor progress of the UK Covid-19 Inquiry. No timescales have been given as to when applicants will be informed of the outcome of their CP applications, with the only information provided being that the Inquiry Chair (Baroness Heather Hallett) will be reviewing and determining in 'due course'.

Much like the preliminary hearings held for Modules 1 and 2, the first preliminary hearing for Module 3 (which has been announced to take place on 28 February 2023) will cover an update from the Inquiry Counsel on CP applications and more detail on the intricacies of the module.

As a reminder, Module 3 will consider the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic on the healthcare sector in England, Wales, Scotland, and Northern Ireland. An examination of the consequences for healthcare, including the impact on systems and services, patients, doctors, nurses and other healthcare staff will form a core part of the investigations. The broad areas under examination are set to include decision-making on healthcare provided to patients with Covid-19; staffing levels and critical care capacity; preventing the spread of the virus within healthcare settings; and the characterisation and identification of 'Long Covid'.

As we’ve previously anticipated, the Inquiry team has also confirmed that it will begin hearing evidence in 'Spring 2023'. The first investigation will be into the UK’s pandemic preparedness and resilience.
