On May 10, 2005 an “Accord Establishing Additional Benefits for Certified Companies With a Maquila or PITEX Program” came into effect. This new accord provides additional benefits for certified companies which have a maquila or PITEX program. The benefits consist of: Considering as authorized all tariff items included in an export program, allowing the temporary importation of goods needed in production without the need to request additional extensions from the Ministry of the Economy; Exempting from compliance with certain specific requirements when importing, temporarily, specified goods; Exempting from compliance with Article 4 of the Accord Establishing the Services a Service Maquiladora May Provide” that restricted certain services to be provided by textile companies; Reducing the amount of the information that must be reported to the Ministry of the Economy, including reports regarding PROSEC, ALTEX and ECEX programs.
