Overview

Bradley is a national law firm with a reputation for skilled legal work, exceptional client service, and impeccable integrity. We provide business clients around the world with a full suite of legal services in dozens of industries and practice areas.

Founded in 1870 in Elyton, Alabama, before moving to Birmingham the following year, Bradley has retained the tradition of southern hospitality even as the law firm has grown into a global force. Our founding partners established the highest standards of value, ethics, and professional excellence in the practice of law - standards that have guided us through to the present day. Respect for our clients, colleagues, and communities and passion for our work are the driving forces behind everything we do. That kind of integrity means that clients can trust us to not only serve their needs, but ensure that the work is completed the right way.

Our 10 offices are located in Alabama, Florida, Mississippi, North Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, and the District of Columbia, giving us an extensive geographic base to represent clients on a regional, national, and international basis. We frequently serve as national coordinating counsel, regional counsel, and statewide counsel for clients in various industries.

Diversity and equality in the workforce are core values at Bradley, allowing us to leverage a wide range of perspectives to help us achieve the results that we expect and our clients demand. We are also committed to giving back to our communities with meaningful pro bono legal services and charitable contributions through the Bradley Arant Boult Cummings Charitable Foundation.

Although we are a large law firm with more than 500 lawyers, our clients still enjoy the personal attention, responsiveness, and deep relationships they would expect from a boutique firm. Our attorneys and staff combine legal experience and knowledge with a sophisticated understanding of industries to work side by side with clients and come up with practical, strategic solutions specifically tailored to their business operations. Bradley lawyers use their talents, judgment, work ethic, and experience to go above and beyond expectations to help our clients meet their goals.

GAO issues another noteworthy protest decision on joint venture experience

We recently reported1 on the Government Accountability Office's (GAO) decision in AttainX.2 As we explained, the AttainX decision is noteworthy because the GAO held that, notwithstanding the fact that a solicitation does not require examples from the joint venture itself or the individual members, the Small Business Administration's (SBA) regulations require the agency to evaluate each joint venture member individually when the joint venture itself does not demonstrate that it has the required experience...

The DEA's Prohibition of TCHO: Why It Matters and Why It May Not

The hemp industry's explosive growth following the 2018 Farm Bill has produced a number of consequences, some intended and many more almost certainly never considered by lawmakers. The development of THC acetate ester (THCO), a synthetic substance created from hemp, almost certainly falls within the latter category. Recently, THCO has gained substantial popularity. In a Feb. 13, 2023, letter, however, the Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) stated that delta-8 and delta-9 THCO—unlike delta-8 and delta-10 tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) that is naturally derived from hemp—fall within the Controlled Substances Act's (CSA) definition of "marijuana...

Robert Maddox Quoted on Decrease in CFPB Enforcement Actions

Bradley attorney Robert Maddox was quoted in American Banker on the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau’s (CFPB) decrease in enforcement actions and lagging employee morale under the leadership of CFPB Director Rohit Chopra. The CFPB opened 25 new enforcement investigations in fiscal year 2022, compared with 64 in fiscal year 2021, explained Maddox. Under the Biden administration, many issues do not escalate into an enforcement issue or are not disclosed. Maddox said Chopra is using a wide range of tools, from issuing advisory opinions to using the bully pulpit, to encourage financial institutions to adopt pro-consumer policies...

Elisha Kobre Quoted in Law360 on FCA Defendants Acting with Scienter

Bradley attorney Elisha Kobre talked with Law360 about the False Claims Act (FCA) scienter requirement and what qualifies as a “substantial and unjustifiable risk.” Scienter is action taken by defendants that implies knowledge of their wrongdoing. Justice Clarence Thomas challenged the Seventh Circuit’s finding that the FCA defendants had an “objectively reasonable view” of an ambiguous policy, with Thomas citing scienter on behalf of the defendants as a “reckless disregard” of the truth...
